Relocation Assistance

Employees who are hired for certain positions, including social worker positions, are eligible for relocation assistance. Relocation assistance is provided in the form of a reimbursement for certain IRS-eligible moving expenses. If you are offered employment, the human resources director will inform you of the current maximum reimbursement rate.

Koinonia has an IRS accountable plan, which means the relocation assistance reimbursement is limited to the cost of (1) transportation of household goods and personal effects (including gas), and (2) travel (including lodging but not meals) to the new residence. These expenses must be reasonable and include:
  1. Costs of actually packing up goods and personal effects and moving them to the new home.
  2. Temporary storage of household items.
  3. Expenses involved in traveling to the new home, including lodging for you and your family (but not meals).

Prior to incurring any expenses, newly hired employees are required to submit an estimate of their relocation expenses in writing for approval. Koinonia Foster Homes is not responsible to reimburse employees for any expense incurred without obtaining prior approval.

Because Koinonia has an IRS accountable plan, moving expense reimbursements are not taxable compensation. With this in mind, the reimbursement will show up on your W-2 in Box 13 and with a P to indicate a moving expense reimbursement.

To be eligible to receive relocation assistance, employees must agree to remain with the company a certain period of time after they are hired in order to justify the reimbursement. The human resources director will provide more information regarding eligibility requirements at the time employment is offered.
